New restrictions on restaurant cooking come into effect Wednesday in Alton, Illinois, in response to the spread of the coronavirus that has killed more than 1,000 people in the United States and Canada. A hotline has been set up for Illinois residents who have stress or mental health issues related to COVID-19. Residents can receive calls from counselors who are deployed by local mental health centers for support, as well as text messages via the hotline or SMS to a hotline at 1-888-743-5555 or by text message on the phone.

People who wish to speak to a mentally ill person can text "TALK" to 1-888-743-5555 or text "TALK" to 877-567-4357. Those affected will be given instructions on how to navigate and access support services, as well as the opportunity to write back and forth between the hotline and a local health centre.
